Clock 1

This is my first attempt at building a medieval style weight driven clock. I made many mistakes, but learned a great deal.  I never went beyond creating the drive train and escapement, it would have been pointless with all the problems this clock has.  I will post a few pictures of building the parts and what it turned out like.

This is not the best way to lay out gears.  (this way leads to madness!!)  See clock 2 for an easier method of laying out a gear.

This is not a good way to make a crown gear.  Or any gear! I found that the teeth of a gear should be cut last after all forging, spokes, hub etc are all done, otherwise you will get distortion that is impossible to recover from.

Two videos show the verge and foliot escapement in action.

  1. nice job all I have checked out so far is your first clock. I looks remarkably like my first clock. No dial train.
